National Employment Monthly Update
The national unemployment rate fell to 4.3% in May 2017 and the number of unemployed persons decreased by 195,000 to 6.9 million according to the latest monthly employment situation report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
The number of people employed increased by just 138,000 in May. The three-month average slowed to 121,000 in May while the trailing twelve-month average improved to 189,000 reflecting a stronger job market a year ago. Employment increased in health care, mining, professional and business services and food services and drinking places; other industries were little changed.
