The national unemployment rate fell to 4.5% in March 2017 and the number of unemployed persons decreased by 326,000 to 7.2 million according to the latest monthly employment situation report from the Bureau of Labor Statistics

The number of people employed increased by just 98,000 in March. The three-month average slumped from a revised 197,000 to 178,000 in March while the trailing twelve-month average somewhat slowed to 182,000. Employment increased in professional and business services and in mining, while retail trade lost jobs.
