Employee Turnover

Is employee turnover always a negative? Not necessarily, says Roberta Matuson, president of Human Resource Solutions and author of Suddenly in Charge.

In this Monster video, Matuson makes the case that employee turnover can actually be of benefit to your small business, as long as it's proactively managed.

I look at employee turnover like I look at chocolate.

Some in moderation is great but when you have too much, it can be problematic.

It’s good to have some employee turnover because often time, people tend to outstay their welcome in some situations -- or they’re ready to move on and you don’t necessary have opportunities for them. They may have outgrown your company.

When you have employee turnover , especially if it’s the kind where you can easily replace these people, that allows you opportunities to bring in people with fresh ideas and to re-energize your organization.

So the next time you’re out on a barbeque with other small business owners and they’re telling you proudly that they haven’t lost a person in five years, you can rest assured knowing that you’ve got a fresh group of people, ready to go.
